Christchurch Earthquakes

Do you know what this is? An irrigation pipe that has burst?.....NO. A sprinkler that has turf grown over the surface?.......NO.
This was our 9th green, about 1.00pm 22nd February, 2011  directly after the first 6.3 earthquake hit the area .What followed  led to 185 deaths, massive destruction all over Canterbury, ruined infrastructure and a rebuilding of a city and lives that still continues today with over 10,000 aftershocks since.
The photos that follow below are what confronted me on the golf course directly after the first earthquake struck.

The following link will take you to an article about the clean up of Christchurch's sports facilities that was written in AGCSA's Australian Turfgrass Management Journal a few months after the earthquake. It features a section written about our cleanup at Avondale Golf Club directly after the February quake.
Cleanup of Christchurch's sports facilities

Since the February 2011 earthquake we had 2 more severe quakes in June and December 2011 that caused considerable damage to the course again in the same areas but not to the same extent. The June quake happened about 3-4 weeks after we were  fully open after February event.  We were closed again for weeks with the cleanup and then got hit with 2 big snowstorms in July and August. To say it was gut wrenching would be an understatement. Below are some more photos of the cleanup and rejuvenation process.
